In 1952 the
college had the first team. Serious
cricket was started in college in
1954. The first XI team had boys under
twelve years. During that year they
played four inter school matches and
lost three and one was drown.
The college
had inter house matches for the first
time in 1954. the coveted cricket
bowl was won by Iqbal House. In 1956
college was unbeaten for the season
in Junior cricket. The founder principal
instilled a sense of cricket into
boys of his time.
In cricket
Isipathana in her brief history has
made remarkable progress although
it has not been by leaps and bounds
as in athletics or Rugby.
The Old Boys
Association has assisted the teams
in providing the necessary facilities
for cricket. President of B.R.C. and
Colts also have extended their cooperation
and providing the facilities for practices.
The encouragement and assistance provided
by the principal Mr. Upali Gunasekara
is a source of strength to the team.
In 1978 Asantha
de Mel of Isipathana College at the
under 19 school boys cricket match
between Australia & Sri Lanka
created history by bowling the magnificent
figure of 6 for 74. He was among the
great school boy fast bowlers.
